Texas Car Crashes
Texas is among the top three states in the nation with the most annual car accidents. On average, there are more than 400,000 vehicle collisions in the Lone Star State every year. These wrecks injure and take the lives of thousands of people per year. On average, more than 17,000 people sustain injuries in these accidents every year, and close to 4,000 lose their lives.
Car wrecks in Texas can happen for a multitude of reasons. Inclement weather, malfunctioning/under-serviced vehicles, and driver negligence are all prevalent causes of car accidents in Texas. Currently, the leading cause of auto collisions in the Lone Star state is distracted driving. Distracted driving causes more injuries and fatalities in the United States than any other type of driver negligence.
Driver negligence has become a serious problem in the United States. The National Safety Council reports that in 2015, 4.4 million people were injured in auto accidents and more than 38,000 were killed. This is a 9% increase from the previous year, which is the largest percentage increase in the last 50 years.
A study completed by the AAA Foundation for traffic safety found that driver errors are at fault for more than 94% of collisions in the United States, and approximately 87% of drivers engage in unsafe driving behaviors. This means that millions of people sustain injuries due to driver error/negligence every single year.
When you or someone you love is injured in an auto accident, the chance that the wreck was caused by negligence is high, as we can see from the previously discussed statistics. If you are unsure whether or not a crash was your fault, or you know that it was the fault of another person, you need to contact a car crash lawyer as soon as possible.
An attorney can help you figure out who/what caused your wreck and how you can get the financial compensation that can help you recover. If a court finds that a negligent driver caused your accident, you will be eligible to collect full and fair compensation for vehicle repairs, lost wages, medical bills, and more.
