Texas Pedestrian Collisions
Pedestrian accidents have become a serious issue in Texas. Approximately 6,000 pedestrian-related auto accidents happened in Texas in 2019. Of these accidents, around 1,312 severe injuries occurred and 668 deaths. From 2015 to 2019, the fatality rate related to pedestrian collisions in the Lone Star State increased by 17%.
Some of the main factors contributing to Texas pedestrian accidents are drivers who fail to yield the right of way to pedestrians. Over half the time, pedestrians are struck by drivers who are not paying attention to the roadway. Speeding and intoxication are other common contributors to pedestrian crashes in the United States and throughout Texas.
Pedestrians can stay as safe as possible by sticking to the sidewalks whenever possible, always using marked crosswalks, and always obeying traffic signals and signs. Additionally, making eye contact with drivers before entering the roadway and wearing light/reflective clothing are two ways to preserve safety when traveling on foot.
Pedestrian crashes in Texas often result in injuries that can be life-threatening. These injuries may negatively impact the lives of victims for days, weeks, or longer, depending on their severity. Your ability to function regularly in your daily life may be altered by injuries you sustained in a pedestrian accident, which can be extremely stressful.
Many other issues may come with being hurt in a pedestrian accident. Injured accident victims and their families may be left worrying about where they can get help recovering from the aftermath of their accidents. Especially when a crash is caused by driver negligence, crash victims may be eligible for financial compensation from the at-fault driver’s insurance company. Unfortunately, insurance companies may attempt to deny responsibility or lessen the amount of your settlement in order to make a profit. With the help of an attorney, you can avoid being taken advantage of by insurance adjusters.
