Corpus Christi, TX – One Hospitalized After Car Crash on S Staples St

Corpus Christi, TX (October 18, 2020) – At approximately 2:15 a.m., an auto accident took place at the 5900 block of South Staples Street in the vicinity of Woolridge Drive. 

According to witness statements, one vehicle was stopped at the intersection when another vehicle came up behind it and collided with its rear end. The contributing factors of the accident are currently under local law enforcement investigation at this time. 

The force of the impact sent the car that was stopped at the intersection into a nearby parking lot while the other vehicle continued on down the roadway and struck a street sign before coming to a final stop. 

The incident is currently under authority investigation for intoxication assault on the part of the driver who struck the vehicle from behind. 

One injured victim was transported from the accident scene to a local area hospital with injuries of an unknown magnitude. No one involved in the collision has been identified at this time. 

The driver of the vehicle that crashed into the other car was identified as Edward Mendez, 23. He was arrested and charged with intoxication assault with a vehicle, evading arrest, and failing to identify himself to police. 

No further information is available at this time.
