Texas Car Crashes

Car crashes happen in Texas at an alarming rate. Over 435,000 auto collisions were reported by the Texas Department of Transportation in 2020. These accidents resulted in approximately 250,000 injuries and over 3,600 fatalities. Throughout the United States, there are more than 6 million car crashes reported per year that cause injuries to more than 3 million people and take the lives of approximately 40,000.

These accidents happen for a multitude of different reasons, ranging from vehicle problems to dangerous roadways. However, the most common reason auto collisions are reported throughout the United States and in Texas is driver negligence. In 2020, the most common reasons auto collisions occurred throughout the Lone Star State include:

  • Speeding
  • Failure to control speed
  • Failure to stay in proper lane
  • Distracted driving
  • Following too closely
  • Disregarding stop signs/signals
  • Fatigue
  • Driver intoxication

These are all different forms of driver negligence. If drivers were more mindful and careful while operating their vehicles, everyone would be much safer while traveling on American roadways.
