Refugio, TX – Rusty Lee Edwards Killed in Fatal Semi Crash on Hwy 77

Refugio, TX (September 19, 2020) – A two-vehicle crash involving a semi-truck took the life of one Kingsville man this past Wednesday afternoon on a roadway in Refugio. 

The incident took place at approximately 3:45 p.m. this past Wednesday, September 16, when an 18-wheeler was headed north on US Highway 77. A 2007 Ford F-150 was headed south on the same highway according to the Texas Department of Public Safety. 

According to a news release, the semi-truck struck the Ford on the driver’s side door after hydroplaning across the roadway at unsafe speeds. 

The force of the impact forced the Ford into the right-hand shoulder of the southbound lanes. 

The driver of the Ford, Rusty Lee Edwards, of Kingsville, was pronounced deceased at the accident scene by medical professionals who responded to the call concerning the crash. 

The driver of the semi was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital for treatment of minor injuries. 

No further information has been disclosed concerning the details of the crash. 

An investigation into the circumstances of the collision will be carried out by local police.
