San Antonio, TX – Fatal Crash on I-10

San Antonio, TX (August 13, 2020) – One person is dead after a car accident on the morning of Tuesday, August 11th caused by the driver of a Toyota minivan who fell asleep behind the wheel just past Comfort. The Toyota then plummeted down a roadside embankment that ran from Interstate 10 to Cypress Creek Road. 

Troopers from the Texas Department of Public Safety stated that the Toyota was traveling eastbound from El Paso on its way to San Antonio when the accident occurred at around 9:15 a.m. 

Troopers said that the Toyota then swerved across the median and tumbled down the mid-road embankment and landed on Cypress Creek Road where it then collided with a column for the overpass, slid up a portion of the embankment and then back down, where it finally came to a full stop on the side of the road. 

A male occupant, who had been seated in the second row of the minivan, was thrown from the vehicle. Emergency medical personnel who were also dispatched to the crash pronounced the man dead at the scene. 

Two additional female occupants had to be extricated from the minivan. Both women were transported via medical helicopter to different trauma centers in San Antonio. Both were classified as being in critical condition. 

The driver of the minivan was transported by ambulance to Peterson Regional Medical Center. His post-accident medical condition is not known at this time.
