Fatal Auto Accidents in Texas
Every year, Texas experiences a significant number of car accidents, with approximately half a million crashes recorded annually. In 2021, a car accident occurred nearly every 57 seconds across the state, highlighting the pervasive nature of this issue. That same year, over 4,000 traffic fatalities were reported, representing a troubling increase. More than half of these accidents resulted in injuries ranging from minor to severe, leaving many individuals and families struggling with the aftermath.
Car accident injuries can vary widely in severity. While some individuals walk away with minor bruises, others sustain life-threatening conditions that require extensive medical care and rehabilitation. In 2021, Texas reported over 15,000 crashes involving serious injuries. Notably, two of the most dangerous highways in the United States, Interstate 35 and Interstate 45, run through Texas. Speeding, a leading cause of accidents, is responsible for approximately 11,000 fatalities nationwide each year. In addition to speeding, distracted driving has become a growing concern, with advanced in-vehicle technology and cell phones contributing to accidents by diverting drivers’ attention from the road.
