San Antonio is the second largest city in the U.S. state of Texas with a population of approximately 1.5 million. It is the county seat of Bexar County and is located in south central Texas in the Texas Triangle mega-region.
A Historical City
San Antonio was named for Saint Anthony of Padua by members of a Spanish expedition. The area has belonged to different countries over the course of history, including native American tribes, Spain, Mexico and eventually the United States. Four Spanish-era missions built in the 18th century still exist in the city today, including the infamous Alamo, which was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2015.
