According to the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office, the crash involved a minivan and a pickup truck. The driver of the minivan, identified as 40-year-old Crystal Mendoza, tragically succumbed to her injuries at the scene. Two teenage passengers in the minivan, ages 13 and 14, were seriously injured and sustained broken legs. They were rushed to University Hospital, where they were reported to be in stable condition.
The driver of the pickup truck, a man in his 20s, was also taken to University Hospital for treatment of injuries described as non-life-threatening. Authorities noted that he has been uncooperative in providing details about the incident. Investigators remain on the scene to gather evidence and piece together the events leading up to the crash. Martinez Losoya Road was temporarily closed in the area while crews worked to clear the wreckage.
We extend our deepest condolences to the family of Crystal Mendoza during this difficult time.
Our thoughts are also with the injured teens and the driver of the pickup truck, wishing them all a timely recovery.
Car Accidents in Texas
Texas consistently ranks as one of the states with the highest number of fatal and injury-causing motor vehicle accidents. Each year, thousands of families are devastated by the consequences of these crashes. South Texas roadways, often rural and less regulated, can pose additional risks for drivers.
Fatal crashes and serious injuries often involve:
- Distracted Driving: One of the leading causes of crashes in Texas, distracted driving continues to endanger lives. Whether caused by cell phones, eating, or other distractions, it often results in severe consequences.
- Intersection Crashes: Collisions at intersections, especially in rural areas, are frequently deadly due to a lack of stop signs, lights, or driver awareness.
- Rollover Risks in SUVs or Trucks: Due to their design, larger vehicles like trucks and SUVs are more prone to rollovers in high-speed or side-impact collisions.
- Young or Inexperienced Drivers: Younger drivers are statistically more likely to be involved in serious accidents due to inexperience and risky behaviors.
