Pedestrian Accidents in Texas
In Texas, pedestrian safety continues to be a growing concern. The state consistently ranks among the highest in the nation for fatal pedestrian crashes. In recent years, Texas has averaged more than 800 pedestrian fatalities annually, according to data from the Texas Department of Transportation. With increasing traffic and urban growth, pedestrian risks are also rising.
It’s important to understand what kinds of injuries can result from these devastating crashes:
-
Traumatic Brain Injuries: TBIs can occur when a pedestrian hits their head on the ground or a vehicle. These injuries often have long-term consequences, including memory loss, cognitive impairments, and emotional challenges.
-
Spinal Cord Trauma: These injuries can be life-altering, sometimes leading to permanent paralysis. Victims may require extensive rehabilitation and assistive devices to navigate everyday life.
-
Pelvic and Limb Fractures: Pedestrians are vulnerable to multiple fractures due to the force of impact. Recovery can take months, and surgeries are often required to repair broken bones.
-
Lacerations and Internal Injuries: Sharp trauma can lead to deep wounds or internal bleeding. These injuries can be life-threatening without rapid medical intervention.
-
Psychological Trauma: Survivors of pedestrian accidents often deal with PTSD, anxiety, and depression. Mental health care is an important part of long-term recovery.
